“Best Tasting Water in South Carolina Award” for the second time!

West Anderson Water District emerged as the 2008 winner in the annual “Best Tasting Water in South Carolina” contest, hosted by South Carolina Rural Water Association (SCRWA). This annual event is held each year at the Decision Makers Summit. The winner will now compete in the “Great American Water Taste Test” in Washington, DC this spring, to see how their water ranks with the rest of the country. Each year, Rural Water Associations from across the nation gather in Washington, DC at the Annual Water Rally. Volunteers attending from South Carolina will meet with elected officials to relay the needs and concerns of the water and wastewater systems.

The Decision Makers Summit is an annual SCRWA event that focuses on training the Board and Council Members of water and wastewater systems. Each year this event becomes more and more important due to legislative and regulatory demands. During this event, Board and Council Members are involved in a series of training sessions and networking opportunities that are invaluable. Each year they encourage attendees to bring a sample of water to be judged in the “Best Tasting Water in South Carolina” contest. A blind panel is then assembled to judge the entries based upon the basic qualities of water: clarity, smell, taste, and aftertaste.

West Anderson Water District is located in Anderson County, South Carolina and managed by Steve Wilson. This system shares the water treatment plant (Anderson Regional Joint Water System) ownership with thirteen other water systems.
