Sandy Springs Water District was organized in 1972 as a non-profit company to serve unincorporated areas in Northern Anderson County near the community of Sandy Springs. The company was converted in 2001 to a public service district with a territory covering a geographical area of 61.4 square miles. They became a member of the Anderson Regional Joint Water System on April 18, 2002. The District currently serves 5,181 customers.

Sandy Springs Water District employs a staff of 8, which is comprised of three (3) office personnel and an “outside” crew of five (5). The governing body of the District is made up of a chairman, and 8 members. Members are appointed by the governor, and each member serves a 4 year term.
